Vito DiSalvo has divided his career as a music educator, professional musician, composer, arranger, conductor and producer. As an accomplished accordionist, pianist, he has performed professionally for over 40 years. He has been involved with Classical, Opera, Jazz, Italian Pop and American Pop. His musical skills and leadership have taken him to concert stages from Pittsburgh and the tri state area, where he originated and lead his popular dance band, WE THREE, to accordion movie credits in “A Wedding for Bella” aka “The Bread My Sweet”, to televised PBS specials of American tenor, Matt Morgan. He was also privileged to play accordion for the late world-renowned tenor Luciano Pavarotti for his Pittsburgh performances. Vito recently returned from Shanghai China where he conducted the Shanghai Opera Orchestra with Canadian, Italian born soprano Giorgia Fumanti. The music score for the independent film, "Baby Fat", was made up entirely of DiSalvo's original music. In August 2010, Vito's original composition, "Tarantella Americana", and his arrangement of the "Tarantella Napoletana/Quadriglia Abruzzese were spotlighted in the SONY Film "EAT PRAY LOVE" starring Julia Roberts. Both were recorded by Disalvo's band We Three. In the Spring of 2011, DiSalvo started touring as pianist with the 60's international singing group, The Letterman.
In 1976 Vito started Mifflin Hills Music Co as a publishing company. In 2007 Mifflin Hills Music Publishing LLC became solely a publishing company and MHM Productions LLC was formed as a recording and artist management company. Vito and his companies have published choral music, numerous symphonic band compositions, one of which was published by Columbia Pictures Publications and retitled “Transformations”, eight Italian albums and two inspirational albums. His original music has been performed on he HBO series The Sopranos, on national advertisements and promotional videos for Pirollo Tours, in an independent comedy film, and documentary films. Most recently, Vito collaborated with Pittsburgh radio legend, Jack Bogut on three projects featuring Mr. Bogut’s original stories and DiSalvo’s original compositions. Several of DiSalvo’s compositions have been used in a documentary film about the life of “Wrestling’s Living Legend” and former “World Champion”, Bruno Sammartino. DiSalvo’s music is played in restaurants and other venues all over the country including the restaurants chains: Buca di Beppo, The Olive Garden, and Macaroni Grill. Vito DiSalvo played the accordion on the Grammy Award Winning Jazz Album by Nancy Wilson, “Turned to Blue” on MCG Jazz Label. In 2007, Vito’s publishing company is asked to provide content to background music companies primarily two of the largest being MUZAK and DMX in addition to new comers EOS and CRC. In March 30, 2008 Vito DiSalvo is awarded the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame Education Professional of the Year.
Earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Education from Duquesne University in May 1973, Vito was later honored in 1977 with the prestigious Distinguished Alumni Award in recognition of his outstanding achievements and contributions to the fields of music and music education. Vito furthered his musical education earning a Master of Music Degree in Theory/Composition from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida in 1976, studying with such distinguished composers as the late Clifton Williams and the late Alfred Reed. In 2007, Vito retired from West Mifflin Area School District, where he taught for 32 years and was Head of the Music Department for 25 years.
